The Military Vehicle Preservation Association conducts annual historic military vehicle convoys across the United States and Canada. Every year a historic route is chosen with significance to the military or automobile history. 2019 is the 100th anniversary of the Motor Transport Corps’ Trans-continental Convoy; the first successful attempt by the US Army to travel coast to coast using only motor vehicles in 1919. This was historically significant for a few reasons, chief among which is was the first time the military had attempted to do so and the convoy was led by a then Major Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Now, 100 years later, the MVPA plans to retrace that same route (or very close to it) following the ‘Lincoln Highway’ beginning in Washington DC, and starting with its full compliment of over 75 vehicles in York, PA on August 10th, 2019. The convoy will rest for two days at the DuPage County Fairgrounds during which time, they will refuel and park for the day at the First Division Museum Parking lot on Tuesday, August 20th.
