National Pollinator Week

Honeybees and Hummingbirds!

11am – 12pm
Pollinator Garden
Free with paid parking

We’re excited about our pollinator friends and you should be too! Join us Monday through Friday, June 17th-21st, to help us celebrate the creatures that are needed for the reproduction of 90% of flowering plants and 1 out of 3 bites of food we take each day. Pollinators are all part of the intricate biological web that helps to support diversity in our ecosystem and sustains our quality of life.

Today we will start in the Visitors Center theater with a presentation on honeybees given by Melanie Robinson, who has her own beehives and is a Cantigny volunteer! We’ll then head out to the Pollinator Garden—and talk with Jeff Reiter, who works in Cantigny’s Communications department and leads our monthly bird walks. Jeff will be highlighting hummingbirds and the role they play as pollinators in our gardens.

Each day we will highlight a particular plant and explain which pollinator(s) it appeals to—whether it be butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, bees of all kinds, beetles or even flies! We will encourage you to join in the call to action to help our pollinators—by joining us in the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge.

There are three simple steps to participating in the Million Pollinator Garden Challenge:

• Plant something for Pollinators
• Register your Garden at MillionPollinatorGardens.org
• Spread the word and get others to join in!

And to get you off to a great start we’re going to give away 1 plant per family each day, to get your own pollinator garden established! Bring a friend along and learn how to bee a part of this collaborative effort!

Please note that there is no fee for this program; parking fee does apply. Registration requested.
