SUMMARY:Curator’s Tour: 250 Years of Hamilton’s 5th Field Artillery
DESCRIPTION:Curator’s Tour: 250 Years of Hamilton’s 5th Field Artillery\nThursday August 13\, 6 pm\nMeet your guide inside the First Division Museum\n$25 (includes one canned or bottled beverage) \nJoin us as we celebrate America 250 with a special one-hour tour of Hamilton’s 5th Field Artillery: 250 Years. SUMMARY:Fletcher Rockwell
DESCRIPTION:Sounds of Summer Concert Series\nFletcher Rockwell\nTank Park\nAugust 15\, 7 – 9 pm \nWith classic Americana-tinged rock & roll steeped in the blue-collar charm of their hometown\, Chicago’s Fletcher Rockwell has been building a loyal fanbase throughout the Midwest since 2009. While widely known for their original songs\, the group is also revered for clever versions of the most popular cover music\, spanning everything from vintage Tom Petty\, Paul Simon and Talking Heads to contemporary roots revivalists Chris Stapleton\, Dawes and Mumford & Sons. From humble beginnings at dive bars and late-night house parties\, the band has since been featured on many of the most revered stages in Chicagoland\, including House of Blues\, Metro\, Bub City\, Fitzgerald’s\, Cubby Bear and Joe’s on Weed. The band has also become a fixture at summer fests throughout the region\, with appearances at Taste of Randolph\, Taste of Lincoln Avenue\, Retro on Roscoe\, Oktoberfest Chicago\, Lakeview Taco Fest\, and many more. Fletcher Rockwell’s latest release\, Help Me Get Better\, finds the band conjuring the soulful spirit of a bygone era\, when classic anthems like “American Girl” and “Born to Run” ruled radio airwaves across the nation with big hooks\, sparkling harmonies and stellar musicianship. In the first single off the new record\, the title cut “Help Me Get Better”\, the group deftly blend the garage-rock rush of early Strokes with the anthemic swagger of classic Springsteen. Given their penchant for playing modern roots-country hits like “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Chicken Fried”\, the band sears some Nashville-tinged flavor into deeper cuts “Lullaby” and “Falling Apart”. They certainly aren’t afraid to dial it back\, either – the group’s mellow folky side shines through in the Laurel Canyon sparkle of “Friend or Enemy” and the introspective soul-searcher “I Let You Go”. Help Me Get Better closes out with the dusty highway swan song “People Talk”\, a reverb-soaked epic reminiscent of Kings of Leon in their most haunting hour.\n\nPurchase Parking \nSounds of Summer Concert Series\nFor over 30 years\, Cantigny has presented great live music in a beautiful outdoor setting. The centralized location allows guests to enjoy a variety of delicious food and beverage options before or during concerts at Cantigny’s Beer Garden and Cafe. \nSchedule\nAll concerts are on Saturday nights from 7 – 9 pm unless noted \nMay 23: Chicago Rewired – The Premier Chicago Tribute Band\nMay 30: RCP Band\nJune 6: Too Much Molly\nJune 13: Wheaton Municipal Band\nJune 20: Van Wailin\nJune 27: DuPage Symphony Orchestra\nJuly 18: Horizon\nJuly 25: Blooze Brothers\nAugust 1: West Suburban Symphony Orchestra\nAugust 8: Hairbangers Ball\nAugust 15: Fletcher Rockwell\nAugust 22: Burning Red – Unofficial Tribute to Taylor Swift\nAugust 29: Vital Signs Band\nSeptember 5: Second Hand News

SUMMARY:Old Town School of Folk Music Americana Series
DESCRIPTION:Old Town School of Folk Music Americana Series\nBeer Garden\nSelect Sundays\, 3:30 – 5:45 pm \nCelebrate America 250 with Cantigny and the Old Town School of Folk Music! This limited series brings a musically diverse group of performers to the Beer Garden to honor the roots of American music. Enjoy a summer Sunday afternoon with food\, drinks\, and entertainment surrounded by the beauty of Cantigny’s Gardens. \nPurchase Parking \nSchedule\n\nChris Walz\, July 12\nChris Walz\, a musician’s musician\, a performer and esteemed educator at Chicago’s OldTown School of Folk Music for roughly the past three decades. Chris’s passion in discovering the music he now plays came from listening as a boy to the radio – including the “Bluegrass Ramble” on WCNY in upstate New York. Radio being the window into a new musical landscape broadened the young Chris Walz’s desires\, passions\, and indeed aptitudes\, resulting in him becoming the respected and multi-dimensional artist he is today. \nDuring his youth\, excited by hearing various programs from bluegrass to blues\, it was one particular night that ignited Chris to figure out how to play fingerstyle on the guitar: he heard an entire show of Mississippi John Hurt music\, and this was the genesis of Chris’s style he plays on this album. You’ll also hear strains of his favorite artists\, along with his other influences including Blind Willie McTell\, Stefan Grossman\, and John Renbourn. Chris’s resonant vocals\, his intuitive prowess on the guitar as his sole accompaniment\, and a selection of songs that Chris puts his own unique stamp on\, culminates in how these artists have helped shape Chris while honoring them all. \n\n\nThe Bear Williams Trio\, July 26\nThe Bear Williams Trio delivers an engaging blend of blues\, soul\, folk\, and roots music led by acclaimed bassist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, and educator Bear Williams. Drawing from a career that includes 21 years with Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly and performances alongside some of music’s most respected artists\, the trio combines exceptional musicianship\, rich storytelling\, and audience-friendly performances that celebrate the heart and soul of American music. \n\n\nSlapdash Bluegrass\, August 2\nSlapdash Bluegrass is a string band rooted in the bluff country of southeast Minnesota\, southwest Wisconsin\, and northeast Iowa. Centering a love of folk traditions\, tight vocal harmony\, and instrumental prowess\, a Slapdash show is a celebration of community. From festival stages to dive bars to fellowship halls\, Slapdash Bluegrass draws a crowd with foot-stomping\, finger-blazing barn burners\, and keeps that crowd with nuanced writing and charm. \n\n\nGreat American Jukebox\, August 9\nThe story of American music with Michael J. Miles & Jill Kaeding\nMiles and Kaeding bring together their highly acclaimed newest work\, the “Great American Jukebox” of classic hit songs\, reimagined for acoustic guitar and cello\, combined with Miles’ historic and internationally renowned work on the banjo\, to present a thrilling portrait of America through its songs and stories. \n\n\nCicada Summer\, August 16\nIn the heart of Chicago\, there’s a band playing the songs of summer all year round\, and like their namesake this little band makes a big sound. Inspired by bluegrass\, Irish and folk music traditions\, CICADA SUMMER brews up a warm acoustic blend of tunes spiced with a pinch of city flair. Their energetic sets feature sunny vocal harmonies\, folksy favorites\, scattered fiddle tunes\, golden oldies\, and even the occasional pop-hit gone acoustic. Tap your toes and hum along to some strings on wings! \n\n\nLos Gallos\, August 23\nLos Gallos are Chicago’s premier Tex-Mex/ Americana Roots band. Transcending musical borders\, Los Gallos are known for their unsegregated sound. Their roots-oriented style honors their collective musical inheritance by drawing upon traditional Latin sounds and American vibes. Los Gallos seamlessly fuse an eclectic mix of Cumbia\, Norteño and Bolero with Country\, Rock and Blues to create their innovative signature sound. \nPurchase Parking
