QUILTS OF VALOR
Quilts of Valor has presented over 200,000 hands, or machine sewed quilts to veterans who have been touched by war. Volunteers in all 50 states are making quilts for Quilts of Valor, and we are excited to host the local Illinois of Quilts of Valor.
SIGN A QUILT: For any monetary donation to Land of Lincoln Quilts of Valor, guests will be able to write a message to a veteran on a piece of fabric that will become a quilt awarded to a future veteran.
FABRIC DONATIONS: Quilts of Valor is looking for fabric. So, time to clean out that fabric drawer. Fabric must be cotton, non-religious prints, and non-holiday prints. Patriotic fabric prints are appreciated!
HONOR FLIGHT CHICAGO
At Honor Flight Chicago, “thank you” is at the core of all they do. Honor Flight Chicago recognizes the service of senior military veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War with a one of a kind, all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials built in tribute to them. The trip is just one day, but the impact is life-changing.
HELP WITH MAIL CALL: During each Honor Flight Chicago trip, veterans receive notes of thanks during a special in-flight “Mail Call.” Help make these veterans’ experience special by coming in to compose handwritten thank-you letters for an upcoming Honor Flight.
TRICKSTER ART GALLERY
Trickster Art Gallery creates a unique contemporary view of Native arts, cultural education, and awareness. The National Gathering of American Indian Veterans is a yearly event held by Trickster Art Gallery. This three-day weekend event honors veterans and military personnel of all cultures, eras, and branches in a Native American style.
CANTIGNY VETERANS’ GARDEN
The Veterans Garden was developed by the University of Illinois Master Gardeners and Cantigny. Simply, the purpose of the gardens is to help the veterans learn to grow plants and have a wonderful place in which to learn and fraternize. The project has evolved into a wonderful learning experience and a great place for the veterans to grow their own vegetables and flowers and to enjoy the company of other vets and Master Gardeners while helping others with contributions to various food banks.
