Shakespeare in the Park: Love’s Labour’s Lost
First Division Museum Pavilion
Thursday, July 6, 6-9 pm
Goodly Creatures Theatre returns to Cantigny Park with their production of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost. This is a lesser known Shakespeare comedy whose sequel play was lost to time. Relax on the lawn and enjoy a beautiful summer night of cultural entertainment. The curtain will rise at 7 pm, but seating will begin on the lawn on a first come, first served basis at 6 pm. Please bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket.
A nice selection of food trucks will be on site, or bring a picnic from home. The Cantigny food and beverage team will offer a specially themed cocktail. On this night, the drink is The Cleopolitan (Citrus Vodka, Cointreau, Cranberry Juice, Lime Juice, and Lemon Twist). Beer and wine will be available, too, including refreshing Cantigny Kolsch, brewed for us by 93 Octane Brewery in St. Charles.
About Love’s Labours Lost
The scholarly King of Navarre and his three friends swear off women in the pursuit of study, decreeing that no man shall be in the company of a female. They are immediately put to the test upon the arrival of the Princess of France and her three companions. While the four men fight to keep their oath, others in the kingdom fight for their loves as the jester, Costard, battles the loquacious Don Armado for the affection of the beguiling Jaquenetta. Following classic Shakespearean silliness, subterfuge, and sweetness, the Princess and her ladies are suddenly called away. The cliffhanger-style ending is an untraditional end for a Bard comedy. Will these lovers ever meet again?
