The lower level was used for housing the family’s theater, kitchen, and servant’s quarters.

Family and guest bedrooms occupied this floor during the Medill and McCormick years.
The third floor is not open for tours. This space originally housed servant bedrooms and bathrooms and guest rooms. After the 1930s remodeling these spaces became storage, a sewing room and additional bedrooms.
Robert McCormick expanded his grandfather’s original home between 1935 and 1939.
