Museum Tours

Our two museums introduce you to different aspects of Robert McCormick’s life. His personal an​​d work life and his military life.

Robert R. McCormick House

Visit the Robert R. McCormick House to explore his life’s interests and family history on guided tours of his early 20th Century mansion​. While visiting the McCormick Museum, be sure to check out the Architectural Tour of the exterior of the museum.

PLEASE NOTE: During school season, September- December and March- May we often have school groups booked from 10 am- 1:30pm. During school season it is best to plan your visit in the afternoon or stop by the Visitor Center kiosk and ask for available tour times.

Tour Tickets

Tickets are free but tours fill up early on busy days. Stop at the McCormick House first and get a ticket for your preferred time. Limit 10 per group. Groups of 10 or more may make reservations two weeks in advance at 630.260.8162 or by emailing Register@Cantigny.org.

Starts on the hour, 60 minutes long, climbs stairs.

Highlights

Starts on the half-hour, 30 minutes long, wheelchair accessible.

Self-Guided Tours

First floor only. Sundays in July, August, and September 1:00- 4:30 pm.

Upstairs, Downstairs: The Servants Tour

Enjoy our new specialty tour highlighting those who served the McCormick family, Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 am. Limit 10 participants per tour on a first-come, first served basis. Tickets will be distributed at the Gold Theatre beginning at 11 am.

Special Themes

Accessible Tours

The McCormick House’s First Floor is accessible to visitors by wheelchair or walker. Please see the Tour Coordinator for access. We regret that Segway Personal Transporters and motorized scooters cannot be accommodated inside the museum. Visitors may borrow conventional wheelchairs in the Museum or at the Visitor Center for use while touring Cantigny. Service dogs are welcome in the museum. Accessible restrooms are located in the Visitor Center and the Education Center.

Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more. Please give us two weeks advance notice. Call 630.260.8162 for reservations.

Tour Guidelines

Photography is prohibited in the Museum as tour guides and participants find it distracting. Please feel free to capture your photographs throughout the gardens of Cantigny instead. Please disable the ringer on your cell phone so as not to disturb other visitors. Food, beverages and chewing gum are not allowed in the Museum. Bottled water must be capped.

First Division Museum

Tour the ​​​​​First Division Museum at your own pace to discover American Military History through the stories of the famed 1st Infantry Division, including Colonel McCormick’s role in World War I.
