Volunteer

​Get Involved!

Our dedicated volunteers help make Cantigny an enjoyable experience for all our guests.  The McCormick Museum has many volunteer opportunities and is always looking for new volunteers.
 
When volunteers are needed:  March through December, requires one two-to-four hour shift, per week minimum commitment. 

Positions and Duties:

  • Tour Greeter: (4 hours/week) Assist Tour Guides by greeting visitors, answering visitor questions, and providing tour introductions to prepare visitors for regular tours. Function as initial point of visitor contact to the museum, greeting visitors and offering information regarding scheduled tours. Requirements: Outgoing personality, ability to climb stairs and stand or sit outside in good weather, some public speaking experience helpful.
  • Volunteer Tour Guide (3 hours/week) Lead interpretive tours throughout the former home of Robert R. McCormick to groups of up to 25 members. Requirements: Interest in history and storytelling, outgoing personality, ability to climb stairs and walk for up to 75 minutes, some public speaking experience helpful.
  • Collections Care: (2 hours/week) Aid museum staff in tracking, protecting and preserving McCormick Museum artifacts. Perform a range of duties such as conducting inventories, cataloguing artifacts, data entry and object dusting. Requirements: detail focused, able to climb stairs, lift up to 25 lbs, some computer experience.
