Experience the legacy of Colonel Robert R. McCormick and his historic home in a new way. This architecture tour, led by Will Buhlig, Director of the McCormick House, includes drinks and heavy appetizers.

The tour begins at the Visitors Center with a welcome cocktail. The walk to the McCormick House will provide a background on architect Charles Coolidge and the original home’s Greek Revival style. Circling the home, guests will learn more about the eventual Georgian Colonial Revival renovations by architect Willis Irvin. During the tour, gain insight into the reasoning behind Robert McCormick’s renovations and the way he celebrated his updated home.

After learning about the exterior of the house, guests will discover more about the interior architecture. The tour will focus on the entry hall, dining room, and Freedom Hall, and includes delicious appetizers to savor and another drink served from the famous hidden bar tucked into Freedom Hall.

This is a walking tour of the inside and outside of the McCormick House. There will be some opportunities to sit along your route. Please come prepared with proper footwear.
