Hamilton’s Artillery Reenactment
Parade Field
Thursday, July 4, 11am – 2pm
July 4th will be a blast!
Celebrate Independence Day at Cantigny with our patriotic friends from North West Territory Alliance. The living history actors of NWTA have produced the Revolutionary War Reenactment at Cantigny for over 30 years.
On the Fourth, Hamilton’s New York Provincial Company of Artillery — a division of NWTA and a nonprofit historical education organization — will offer a slate of 18th-century activities and demonstrations from 11 am to 2 pm.
In 1776, Alexander Hamilton, then future Treasury Secretary and military aide to George Washington, captained Artillery Company in the defense of New York from the invading British Army.
Members of the Hamilton’s unit will be sporting authentic reproduction clothing from 1776. They invite Cantigny visitors to:
- See and touch examples of arms and equipment used in the American Revolution
- Witness a cannon firing demonstration (11:30 am)
- Try toys and play children’s games that were typical of the late 1700s
- Attend a “Spy School” session and learn how patriots secretly communicated to avoid detection by the British Army
- Sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence, and hear a reading of America’s founding document (12 pm)
- Catch the Spirit of ’76 at a fife and drum demonstration
